PUMA JONES (1953 - 1990)

Formerly a social worker, Puma Jones worked with Ras Michael and The Sons of Negus as a dancer in a bid to retrace her African ancestry via Jamaica. In 1979 she was invited by Duckie Simpson to join Black Uhuru who recorded the album Showcase (later reissued as Vital Selection) for Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare’s Taxi label. After several successful albums and tours, Puma Jones left Black Uhuru having been diagnosed with breast cancer. She died on the 28th of January 1990.
